Small Cards. Big Smiles.
In the aftermath of natural disasters, young survivors often face overwhelming stress, displacement, and loss. Task Force Breaks steps in and provides sports and non-sports trading cards to children impacted by disaster.
In Fall of 2025, an impromptu stop at a discount store led to a spontaneous purchase of 3 packs of football cards. Inside one of the $5 packs was a card that sold for $1,400.
That money was used to fund the start of Task Force Breaks.
Since that Fall day, the Disaster Task Force has distributed more than 12,000 cards to kids impacted by natural disasters.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of our volunteers and Disaster Task Force members and supporters.

The cards are small. The impact is not.
Every time a child receives trading cards through Task Force Breaks, we see the same thing happen: faces light up, and worries briefly give way to excitement. Children who may have lost their homes, been displaced from school, or spent days living through uncertainty suddenly have something that belongs to them.

You never forget the first smile.
We've watched children go from quiet and uncertain to excited and engaged in a matter of seconds. The moment they spot their favorite team, favorite player, or favorite character, something changes. They smile. They laugh. They start talking. For a little while, they're not thinking about damaged homes, shelters, or the disaster that brought them there.
Task Force Breaks isn't really about trading cards. It's about creating moments of joy, normalcy, and connection when children need them most.

Task Force Breaks acquires trading cards through donations, purchases, card shows, online auctions, and local card shops.
Every card is carefully reviewed, sorted, and organized by sport, team, player, and category - base, rookie, star, numbered, memorabilia card, etc. Cards are stored in protective card boxes by team. We also separate non-sports cards, Pokémon, and other TCG and collectible cards to ensure we have options for children with different interests.
When a deployment is approaching, our team researches the affected area and identifies the most popular local teams and athletes. We then get the boxes of the teams and players most likely to be cheered for by the children we expect to meet. A child in Arizona may receive cards featuring the Cardinals or Diamondbacks, while a child in Texas may receive cards of the Cowboys, Texans, Rangers, Astros or Mavericks or Spurs.
Each card is inspected, protected, and packed with care. What may look like a simple stack of trading cards represents countless hours of sorting, organizing, preparing, and planning.
Because when disaster strikes, we want every child to receive something that feels personal, meaningful, and special.
When disaster impacts a community, the focus is understandably on immediate needs. But recovery is about more than rebuilding homes, replacing belongings, or restoring infrastructure. It's also about restoring hope, creating moments of normalcy, and reminding people—especially children—that they have not been forgotten.
Every card we distribute begins with the generosity of donors, collectors, volunteers, and supporters who believe in the power of a simple act of kindness. What starts as a trading card can become a distraction from difficult circumstances, a treasured keepsake, the beginning of a new hobby, or simply a reason to smile during a challenging time.
At Task Force Breaks, we're not just giving away trading cards. We're creating moments of joy, connection, and comfort when they're needed most. The cards may be small, but the impact can be enormous.
Little Cards. Big Smiles.

Task Force Breaks hosts live card shows on WhatNot every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM Eastern Time - when they're not depoyed. During these livestreams, collectors from across the country purchase trading cards, enjoy the hobby, and help support a meaningful cause. Proceeds from the shows help fund the acquisition, sorting, protection, storage, and distribution of cards that are ultimately given to children impacted by disasters. Every pack opened, card sold, and bid placed helps us put more smiles on the faces of kids impacted by disasters. It's a unique way for collectors to enjoy the hobby they love while helping us deliver comfort, connection, and moments of joy to children when they need them most.
Use this link and receive $15 dollars after your first purchase. We recieve $5 dollars, which we use towards the purchase of more cards for the kids.
